Be thankful!
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT) — 18 Be thankful in all circumstances,
for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

Psalm 118:19–29 (NLT) — 19 Open for me the gates where the righteous enter,

 Shouts of Joy!

Psalm 126:1–6 (NLT) When the Lord brought back his exiles to Jerusalem,
it was like a dream! 2 We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy.
And the other nations said, “What amazing things the Lord has done for them.”
3 Yes, the Lord has done amazing things for us!
What joy! 4 Restore our fortunes, Lord, as streams renew the desert.
5 Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy.
6 They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest.

Papa God! We do not forget that You have brought us back
from various exiles in our lives.
You have done amazing things for us!
You restore our fortunes!
You renew us as streams in the desert!
We have planted in tears …
now we reap our harvest with shouts of joy!
We have wept as we planted seeds …
now we sing as we return with Your Harvest!
We sing praises to Your Name, O Lord!

Praise the Lord!

Psalm 148:1–14 (NLT) — 1 Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens!
Praise him from the skies! 2 Praise him, all his angels!
Praise him, all the armies of heaven! 3 Praise him, sun and moon!
Praise him, all you twinkling stars! 4 Praise him, skies above!
Praise him, vapors high above the clouds!
5 Let every created thing give praise to the Lord, for he issued his command,
and they came into being. 6 He set them in place forever and ever.
His decree will never be revoked. 7 Praise the Lord from the earth,
you creatures of the ocean depths, 8 fire and hail, snow and clouds, wind and weather that obey him, 9 mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars,
10 wild animals and all livestock, small scurrying animals and birds,
11 kings of the earth and all people, rulers and judges of the earth,
12 young men and young women, old men and children.
13 Let them all praise the name of the Lord. For his name is very great;
his glory towers over the earth and heaven!
14 He has made his people strong, honoring his faithful ones—
the people of Israel who are close to him. Praise the Lord!

All Things Bright and Beautiful
Refrain:
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful:
The Lord God made them all.

His faithful love endures forever.
2 Give thanks to the God of gods. …
3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords. …
4 Give thanks to him who alone does mighty miracles. …
5 Give thanks to him who made the heavens so skillfully. …
6 Give thanks to him who placed the earth among the waters. …
7 Give thanks to him who made the heavenly lights—
8 the sun to rule the day, 9 and the moon and stars to rule the night.
His faithful love endures forever.
… … 23 He remembered us in our weakness. …
24 He saved us from our enemies. …
25 He gives food to every living thing. …

Keep expectancy uppermost in your heart!
Celebrate all that God is doing and expect more to come!

Sing to the Lord!
Psalm 92:1–2 (NRSV) — 1 It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to your name, O Most High;
2 to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night, … …
4–5 For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work;
at the works of your hands I sing for joy.
5 How great are your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep! … …
12–15 The righteous flourish like the palm tree, and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God.
14 In old age they still produce fruit; they are always green and full of sap,
15 showing that the Lord is upright; he is my rock, and
there is no unrighteousness in him.

Oh what a beautiful thing it is to give thanks to You!
To sing songs to You!
To announce Your Love every morning!
To proclaim Your Faithfulness in the evening!
You thrill us, Lord, with all You have done for us!
What great works You do!
How deep are Your Thoughts.
We flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
We flourish in Your Courts, O God.
Even in old age we still produce fruit!
In You we are healthy, filled with vitality!
You are upright O Lord our Rock!
Hallelujah!

Tongues of Fire
10/10 in Spiritual Symbols Series

Acts 2:3 (NLT)  Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared
and settled on each of them.

The believers were waiting and praying as Christ had commanded …
Luke 24:49 (NLT)  “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised.
But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”
And at the proper time, God’s Holy Spirit descended.
The tongues of fire symbolize the Divine Power that would speak for God.
The believers spoke in tongues—they did not preach in tongues,
but rather praised God in languages they did not naturally know.
The tongues were like as of fire. It was not fire,
but it looked like fire and rested upon each of them.
This was the appeal to the eye.
So on that Day of Pentecost, when God’s Holy Spirit came to the church,
baptizing them into the body of Christ,
there was an appeal to the ear (sound) and an appeal to the eye (sight).

Jesus said, "How much more shall your Heavenly Father
give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him."
Papa God!
I ask You now in the Name of Jesus to fill me afresh
with Your Holy Spirit. I step into the Fullness and Power
that I desire in the Name of Jesus.
I declare that I am a freshly-filled,
fully alive,
Spirit-filled Christian!
Praise the Lord! Amen.

Holy Spirit as Wind
9/10 in Spiritual Symbols Series
John 3:8 (NLT) The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.

As He so often did, the Lord Jesus used nature to illustrate spiritual truth.
In this excerpt from the visit of Nicodemus, Jesus reminded him
that the wind blows where it wishes, and that a person can hear
the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes.
The new birth is very much like the wind.
Firstly, it takes place according to the will of God—
it is not a power that man holds in his own control.
Secondly, the new birth is invisible—
you cannot see it taking place,
but you can see the results of it in a person’s life.
A saved person is a changed person.
The evil things which she formerly indulged in, she now hates.
The things of God which she formerly despised,
are now the very things she loves.
Just as no one can fully understand the wind,
so the new birth is a miraculous work of the Spirit of God
which man is not able to fully comprehend.
Moreover, the new birth, like the wind, is unpredictable—
it is not possible to state just when and where it will take place.

Dove
8/10 in Spiritual Symbols Series
Matthew 3:16 (NLT) — 16 After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water,
the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God
descending like a dove and settling on him.
Our blessed Spirit, assumed the corporeal form of a dove,
and descended upon Jesus' sacred head.
It was a hallowed occasion, when all three members of the Trinity were evident.
The beloved Son was there. Holy Spirit was there in dove form.
Father’s Voice was heard from heaven pronouncing His blessing on Jesus.
This is one of three occasions when the Father spoke from heaven
in delighted acknowledgment of His unique Son.
The symbol of the Spirit as a dove is important:
the dove is a clean bird;
it is faithful to its mate in love;
it is peaceful and gentle.
Christ was born through the Power of God’s Holy Spirit
and was  empowered by God’s Holy Spirit for His life and ministry.

The Finger of God
Exodus 31:18 (NLT)  When the Lord finished speaking with Moses on Mount Sinai,
he gave him the two stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant,
written by the finger of God.
Luke 11:20 (NRSV) But if it is by the finger of God that I cast out the demons,
then the kingdom of God has come to you.
Luke 11:20 suggests that “the finger of God” signifies the Holy Spirit,
Who wrote the Word of God
2 Timothy 3:16–17 (NLT)  All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us
what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.
It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.
17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
2 Peter 1:19–21 (NLT) Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence
in the message proclaimed by the prophets.
You must pay close attention to what they wrote,
for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place—
until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts.
20 Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from
the prophet’s own understanding, 21 or from human initiative.
No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.
Holy Spirit now writes it on the hearts of those who trust Christ and worship Him
2 Corinthians 3:2–3 (NLT) — 2 The only letter of recommendation we need is you yourselves.
Your lives are a letter written in our hearts; everyone can read it and
recognize our good work among you. 3 Clearly, you are a letter from Christ
showing the result of our ministry among you.
This “letter” is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God.
It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts.

The Hand

Exodus 33:22–23 (NLT)  As my glorious presence passes by,
I will hide you in the crevice of the rock and cover you with my hand
until I have passed by. 23 Then I will remove my hand
and let you see me from behind.
But my face will not be seen.”
Moses asked for a sight of God’s glory. God replied by promising to reveal Himself as a God of Grace and Compassion (see Ex. 34:6-7). Moses could not see God’s face and live, but he would be permitted to stand on a rock while God’s glory passed by, and he would see an appearance of God’s back. No one can see God’s face and live (v. 20). This means that no one can look upon the unveiled glory of God. He dwells “in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see” (1 Tim. 6:16). How then do we explain passages in the Bible where people saw God and did not die? The answer is that these people saw God as represented by our Lord Jesus Christ. Sometimes He appeared as the Angel of the Lord, sometimes as a Man, and once manifested Himself as a Voice. The only begotten Son, Who is in the bosom of the Father, has fully declared God (John 1:18). Christ is the brightness of God’s glory and the express image of His Person (Heb. 1:3). That is why He could say, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9).
