Psalm 147:1 (NRSV)  Praise the Lord! How good it is to sing praises to our God; 

for he is gracious, and a song of praise is fitting.

Praising the Lord is the highest exercise of your faculties. 

He is worthy of praise, and you should praise Him whether or not 

you think your praise is accomplishing anything in your life. 

However, there are some blessings that come to those who worship Him in truth.

Praise brings spiritual beauty to God’s people—it builds His Work and unifies His People—

it heals the inner person and lifts the fallen. Praise is good medicine!

Praise makes God’s world real and personal to you, even the storms; and 

it is great protection against the enemy. 

Praise pleases the Lord and enables Him to work in your life. 

When you sincerely praise Him, the blessing will come. 

Praise changes things—and people.

In case you're in a place where the future looks uncertain—where God seems to be doing something new and yet it's hard to let go of the old—He knows your way. 

He is paving out new roads, so you can walk there in faith, believing He is right with you. Don't ever think you have been forgotten or left on your own. 

Don't ever believe the lie that the struggles or hard circumstances you've faced have messed up your whole future, or disqualified you from God's Purposes and Plans. 

He is a God Who redeems, restores and Who makes all things new. 

He's the One Who excels at bringing beauty from the broken and 

He can do in just one moment what would take us years to work out on our own. 

Trust Him in this new year ahead, and know that He's fighting for you 

and won't let you go.

Praise is an evidence of life—

not just physical life, but the life of God in the heart.

Praise is an encouragement to faith—

when you major on praise, your faith will grow.

Praise is an encouragement to hope—

when your hope is in the Lord, you can praise Him no matter what the circumstances may be. 

Faith is the upward look, and hope is the forward look.

Praise is an encouragement to love—

your love for God and others, and God’s love for you.

Life, faith, hope, and love—

all are bound up in the experience of praise.

Psalm 145:1–3 (NRSV) I will extol you, my God and King, 

and bless your name forever and ever.

3 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;

His Greatness is unsearchable! 

The theme of this Psalm is the greatness of the Lord. 

The psalmist is consumed with a holy determination to extol, bless and praise 

his God and King both in time—every day—and in eternity—forever and ever. The gist of his endless song is that God is Great, 

that His Greatness is worthy of great praise, and

 that His Greatness is infinite in its dimensions. 

Unsearchable?

What a delight to know He has us hemmed in at all times, in all ways. 

His Hand is upon us all.

A new song! We awaken every morning with a new song in our heart. 

Pay attention to your heart and you will hear the new song of new joy 

that our beloved Holy Spirit has placed there overnight!

Psalm 95:1–2 (NRSV)  O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock

 of our salvation! 2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; 

let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!

A joyful noise! Don’t you just love it? 

In tune … out of tune … in key … off key … 

by the time our praises arrive in Heaven the angels have transformed them 

into harmonious melodies fit for ALL to sing! 

And all the while … God looks at our hearts and sees LOVE!

Psalm 92:1–2 (NRSV) — 1 It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, 

O Most High; 2 to declare your steadfast love in the morning, 

and your faithfulness by night,

I declare my love for You, my Lord! I sing praises to Your Name! 

Your Love is steadfast and faithful all day and all night! 

I bless You Lord!

God is good! He abounds in Steadfast Love to all who call out to Him. 

Whether in praise, pain or sorrow—call out to Him. 

He rewards those who diligently seek Him!

Psalm 66:1–2 (NRSV) — 1 Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; 

2 sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise.

You are invited to praise our Lord because God loves the world and 

sent His Son to be the Saviour of the people. 

When you know Jesus as your Saviour you certainly have something to sing about! But don’t do it alone!

Psalm 63:3–4 (NRSV) Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. 

4 So I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands and call on your name.

When you praise God - your inner person is nourished 

and you are satisfied IN Him.

Psalm 62:1–2 (NRSV) For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. 

2 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall never be shaken.

Yesterday we sang praises to Him … today we sit quietly before Him 

and find our soul’s rest. 

Praise can be loud. Praise can be silent. 

Just praise Him!

Psalm 59:16–17 (NRSV) — 16 But I will sing of your might; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been a fortress for me and a refuge in the day of my distress. 

17 O my strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress,

He is your Might, your Steadfast Love, your Fortress and Refuge. 

Sing praises to Him today!

Our God inhabits the praises of His People. Trust Him to get you out of your ‘cave’ (whatever situation you are in) … exalt Him! Sing praises to Him! 

It worked for David in his cave … it will work for you too!

Psalm 51:15 (NRSV) O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.

God is merciful and gracious and forgives us when we come to Him in repentance and faith. We don’t want ‘cheap forgiveness’ … 

come with a broken heart and He restores us. 

Then our lips are opened and our mouth declares praises to him.

Psalm 47:1–2 (NRSV) Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with loud songs of joy. 

2 For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome, a great king over all the earth.

Clap your hands! Shout loud songs of joy! Our Lord is awesome! 

He is Great King over all the earth! Meditate loudly on this psalm today!

Psalm 40:3 (NRSV) He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. 

Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.

When others know what our Lord has done in your life, many will see Him, 

fear His Majesty and put their trust in Him … 

all because you told your story of His actions in your life!

Psalm 36:9 (NRSV)  For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.

John 7:38 (NRSV)  and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, ‘

Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.’ ”

John 8:12 (NRSV)  Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. 

Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”

Light and water—two basic necessities for life. 

Rejoice that He is our life and we are complete in Him!

Psalm 34:8 (NRSV)  O taste and see that the Lord is good; 

happy are those who take refuge in him.

When we taste our Lord and dwell with Him we find His Words to be like honeycomb 

that is sweet to the soul and healing to our bones. 

Taste and see … don’t just sip and glance!
